This event is part of the ESG Exchange Initiative which guides and equips organizations to publish assurable sustainability reports meeting the global mandates.

Overview

Mandatory recurring financial and non-financial sustainability reporting for companies around the world is imminent, and guidelines, such as those for JSE listed companies, have already been published. This is wholly new territory for most corporate C-suites and boards and on the front line for this task will be companies’ reporting officers. Most aren’t prepared. As a leader of a listed, private or non-profit company, you have a responsibility to ensure that you and your staff understand and are prepared to meet the impending global sustainability reporting requirements.

Louise Gardner

CEO, Vukani Impact Collective

Louise has over 22 years of experience working globally on initiatives that have changed how the private sector, investors, and financial institutions think about value creation through improved environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.

 

 

From 2000 to 2004, Louise was editor of the CSR Magazine, published by the European business network CSR Europe. Since 2005 she has worked for IFC, part of the World Bank Group, on projects across Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Latin America to promote sustainable business and financial sector practices in emerging markets, including support to financial sector regulators. She is currently Africa Coordinator in the Secretariat of the IFC-facilitated Sustainable Banking and Finance Network (SBFN) and led work on SBFN’s 2021 Global Progress Report on national sustainable finance initiatives across 43 emerging markets, including South Africa. She has also supported a variety of IFC advisory projects with South Africa’s financial sector since 2012 to advance sustainable finance.

 

In 2010, Louise founded First Principles Sustainability Services, based in Cape Town, South Africa, to provide research and advice to South African and global clients on new developments in private sector sustainability, sustainable finance, and impact investing.

 

 

In 2019, First Principles incubated the ESG Tracker rating tool to accelerate the adoption of ESG and impact management in private equity. She joined forces with co-founders in 2020 to establish Vukani Impact Collective to scale the ESG Tracker and support businesses and investors globally to build value and resilience through sustainability.

 

 

Louise holds an MA in International Relations from the University of Kent in Canterbury.

Michael Parkinson

BSc(Hons), GradDipComp, PFIIA, CIA, CISA, CRMA, CRISC

Michael Parkinson has had a career of over 40 years in Internal Audit, Information Technology and Finance, primarily in the public sector. He has worked for Australian Government, ACT Government, and Northern Territory Government organisations as an employee and a consultant.

He held 3 Chief Audit Executive roles in Australian Government agencies over a period of 15 years. Over 19 years as a Director at a ‘Big 4’ firm, he provided internal audit services to a range of organisations. His career included 5 months advising the Royal Thai Government on establishment of modern Internal Audit capability. He is currently an independent member of a number of Audit Committees.

 

He is a significant contributor to the theory and practice of Risk Management. In 2001–02 he led a joint IIA–Australia / Standards Australia project to develop a guide on the use of the Risk Management standard in the internal audit process. The resulting document has since been updated to HB 158–2010.

 

He has served on the Standards Australia OB–007 Risk Management Committee for 8 years and was its chair from 2012 to 2016. This committee is responsible for a range of guidance handbooks for risk management. Michael was an Australian delegate to ISO committee TC 262 which is responsible for ISO 31000.

Michael served as International Vice-President of ISACA for 4 years 1994–2001 and served for 2 years on the IS Auditing Standards Board 1992–1993.

 

Michael is a Past President (Board Chair) of the IIA–Australia and served on the Board of Directors for 7 years. In that time he served on the IIA–Australia’s Audit Committee for 3 years. He served on the IIA–Global International Internal Auditing Standards Board for six years and was a member of the Task Forces examining the structure of the IIA–Global guidance to the profession – the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF). He served on the IIA–Global International Board for 3 years, with 2 years as a member of the IIA–Global International Executive.

 

Michael was the 2015 recipient of the ‘Victor Z Brink Award’ for distinguished service to the IIA and recognises Michael’s significant contribution to the profession over a lifetime of service. In 2017, Michael was made a Life Member of the IIA–Australia.

Loshni Naidoo

BSc (Chem Eng.), BCom (INF), MBA, PGDIP (Future Studies)

Loshni Naidoo is a Senior Director at FTI Consulting, responsible for providing clients with effective solutions that respond to shifting environmental, social and governance (ESG) or sustainability challenges to ensure long- term value creation.

 
She began her career as a chemical engineer, working for several years in the production and project environments; mainly in mining and chemicals manufacturing. Later, she moved into the accounting and finance fields, where her focus was on providing sustainability and integrated reporting, as well as sustainability advisory and assurance solutions to a diverse array of organisations.

 
During her tenure at SAICA, her focus was to support members on topics related to sustainability, ESG and integrated thinking by advocating on behalf of accountants, awareness- raising, as well as developing thought leadership and technical guidance.

Deeksha G Rao Sahib

Sustainability Consultant | ESG Strategy | Change Agent

Deeksha G Rao Sahib is an ESG Consultant and Sustainability Solutions Expert at Changing Habits Solutions, Canada.

 

Deeksha specializes in creating sustainability solutions for business transformation. Her rich professional experience with research, start-ups, non-profit and consulting enables her to work with diverse groups of people. Her strength lies in developing programs to create strategic business opportunities embracing sustainability and facilitating dialogue for fostering partnerships among different stakeholders. Her expertise includes Materiality Assessment, Stakeholder engagement, ESG Roadmap and Strategy and Sustainability reporting.

 

Deeksha is an accredited Environmental Professional in Training (EPt) by ECO Canada and holds an M.B.A degree in Energy & Environment from Symbiosis International University, India. 

 

She contributes to bringing a positive impact on the local community through her work with the non-profit organisation, Net Impact Montreal. 

Carolynn Chalmers

Chief Executive Officer, Good Governance Academy

Carolynn Chalmers is the Chief Executive Officer of Professor Mervyn King’s Good Governance Academy and its initiative, The ESG Exchange. She has edited two international standards: ISO 37000:2021 – Governance of organizations – Guidance and its associated Governance Maturity Model, ISO 37004:2023.

 

Carolynn makes corporate dreams come true, assisting leaders and leadership teams in how to create value for their organisations. She makes use of her expertise and experience in corporate governance, organizational strategy, Digital Transformation, and IT to do so.

 

Carolynn is an Independent Committee Member of South Africa’s largest private Pension Fund, the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund, and recently retired as Independent Committee member of several board committees for the Government Employee Medical Scheme. Carolynn has extensive management, assurance and governance experience and has held various Executive roles for international, listed, private and public organisations across many industries.

 

Carolynn is best known for her successes in establishing governance frameworks, and designing and the leading large, complex initiatives that can result. She attributes this success to the application of good governance principles. She shares her insights on her 2 LinkedIn Groups – Applying King IV and Corporate Governance Institute.
